Nuna TRVL vs Nuna TRVL lx Stroller Comparison

If you’re a parent or caregiver shopping for a best-in-class lightweight stroller, you’ve likely discovered the Nuna TRVL during your research. Recently, Nuna has expanded its compact stroller collection by adding the TRVL’s shiny new sibling, the TRVL lx. Both strollers are designed to simplify your on-the-go life—they pack full-size features in a lightweight, compact package.

But what are the differences between the original TRVL and the newer TRVL lx? Whether you’re a veteran parent looking to upgrade your ride or a newbie on the hunt for your first set of wheels, we’ve got you covered. Let’s take a closer look at both models and compare their features to help you decide which is best for you and your baby.

Nuna TRVL and TRVL lx: What’s the Same?

Both the TRVL and TRVL lx are jam-packed with the thoughtful details and luxe touches you’ve come to expect from Nuna: Sleek design, one-handed steering, MagneTech secure snap harness buckles, a leatherette bumper bar, and a no-rethread harness for quick adjustments. What sets the TRVL Series apart is their “auto-fold” functionality—just press a button, and both the TRVL and TRVL lx fold themselves, providing unparalleled convenience for busy parents on the go.

Other shared features include:

  • Travel System Ready: Compatible with any Nuna PIPA series infant car seat for a sleek-looking travel system, no adapters necessary.
  • Auto-Folding: Opens and closes automatically by simply pressing a button with one hand.
  • Compact Fold: A free-standing compact fold means easy transport and storage.
  • Dreamy Push: True one-handed steering and exceptional maneuverability ensure smooth and easy turns while strolling with your little one.
  • No-Rethread Harness: A no-rethread harness makes for quick and easy height adjustments as your child grows.
  • Quick-Release Wheels: Quick-release wheels make for an even more compact fold, ideal for storage and travel.
  • Fumble-Free Buckles: The MagneTech secure snap buckle automatically locks into place for quick and convenient loading.
  • Smooth Ride: Progressive front- and rear-wheel suspension technology means a smooth and comfy ride for your little one.
  • Full Protection Canopy: A water-repellant UPF 50+ canopy provides full coverage and has ventilated windows for cooling airflow.
  • Luxe Details: The handlebar and bumper bar feature luxe leatherette accents.
  • Included Travel Bag: Store and protect your stroller with the included carry bag, perfect for gate-checking.
  • Ample Storage: The generously-sized shopping basket is easy to access and provides ample space for all your kiddo essentials.
  • Sandal-Friendly Brake: One-touch rear braking system won’t hurt your feet, even in flip flops.

Nuna TRVL and TRVL lx: What Are the Big Differences?

The TRLV lx features a handful of new upgrades for improved performance and functionality:

  • Extended Canopy: An upgraded canopy extends for better coverage and includes airy mesh panels for cool comfort on warm, sunny days.
  • Newborn Ready: A near-flat recline and two-position calf support convert the seat to a carriage position (like a bassinet or pram) that’s newborn-ready.
  • Infinite Recline: A one-handed, shadow reel recline provides more recline options and auto-retracts to your chosen upright position—zero fidgeting with any mechanism required (you can even bring it upright totally hands-free with your knee).
  • Convertible Harness: The 5-point harness converts to a 3-point harness for easier fastening with your big kid.
  • Upgraded Tires: Never-flat airless tires ensure your stroller is ready to go for miles, providing durability and reliability for all your family’s adventures.
  • Bigger Wheels: Larger wheel dimensions provide improved maneuverability and stability off-road.

Can You Use the Nuna TRVL and TRVL lx from Birth?

Both the TRVL and TRVL lx can be used as travel systems from day one. Any Nuna PIPA series infant car seat connects directly to the stroller frame without the need for adapters.

The new TRVL lx has a handful of exclusive features that allow you to stroll with your newborn without a car seat.

  • A near-flat recline and adjustable calf support transform the stroller seat into a cozy carriage (similar to a bassinet or pram) that accommodates newborns.
  • Larger wheels and a progressive suspension system mean super smooth, jostle-free strolling for newborns.

The TRVL doesn’t feature a full recline, so if you’re not using it as a travel system, it’s best suited for infants who are six months old.

Are the Nuna TRVL and TRVL lx the Same Size?

Before getting into the nitty-gritty TRVL details, we’d like to highlight that both perform extremely well as compact and lightweight strollers (this is Nuna, after all). Popping them into your trunk or storing them at home is effortless and hassle-free.

However, there are minor differences: The TRVL lx is slightly larger and heavier than the TRVL—the bigger wheels and extended canopy add about two extra pounds. Despite its increased weight, the new TRVL lx has the same quick-release wheels for easier compact folding.

If your family often takes to the friendly skies, the original TRVL will fit in most overhead bins once you remove the bumper bar (as always, check with your airline to confirm), but the TRVL lx will not.

What Car Seats Are Compatible with the Nuna TRVL and TRVL lx?

The Nuna TRVL and Nuna TRVL lx are compatible with all Nuna PIPA Series Infant Car Seats, ensuring a fuss-free travel system for parents. Offering direct compatibility without the need for adapters, transitioning from car to stroller is effortless—just recline the stroller seat and snap the car seat into place using the bumper bar as a secure adapter. When it’s time to switch gears, releasing the car seat from the stroller is as simple as pressing a lever located on the back of the seat.

Very important note alert: The TRVL and TRVL lx are only compatible with the Nuna PIPA series of infant car seats. However, PIPA car seats are and have been our best-selling infant car seats since the original PIPA was first introduced in 2014, so while it may seem limiting, you aren’t missing out.
